The Movie You are Living
A Now of Happiness Workshop

 Sat & Sun May 5 & 6, 2007 – Kitchener

Movies are so much more than entertainment. They record our social norms and contracts, and show us how we see our world. They teach us about human psychology, allowing us to peer into our own hearts as we see them reflected on the screen. And they can even show us what lies beyond, in the realm of human archetypes, enabling us to experience the great heroic and compassionate possibilities of humankind.

In this workshop we will begin by looking at bits of diverse films to deepen our appreciation of how a cinematic story is told; how symbols, plot, characters, and dramatic elements work together to draw us into a sort of trance — often full of emotions and meaning.  If we see this as a perfect analogy for the way we live — getting caught up in the drama of our lives — then this becomes more than just expanding our enjoyment of films. Through this process we can develop our awareness of the narrative in our lives and explore a set of metaphors  that enables us to see more clearly how the movie we are living is being “written”, “acted”, “shot” and “edited”. Understanding the dramatic nature of human experience can help us to better “produce and direct” the movie in which we have the central role. Our goal is not a happy ending but the continuity of enlightened living — what we call the Now of Happiness.

Led by Tanis Day and Puran Perez

Note: We will not be exploring the basic teachings of the Now of Happiness in detail in this workshop but rather present that work as a background to help focus the  purpose of this workshop.
