Music and Mysticism

Sat & Sun, Mar 3 & 4 , 2007 - Kitchener

In many esoteric cosmologies the source of everything around us is thought to be sound or vibration. (Even The Bible talks about “the Word made flesh”.) Thus in many spiritual traditions music is a central element of spiritual practice. It could be that of all of the avenues available to us for flowing coherently back to our source and onward to our unfoldment music is the most alive, the most useful, and the one most easily taken by anyone. Unencumbered by language, by thought, by systems of beliefs, music is made of precisely what we are made of — beautifully organized and proportioned vibration. We will explore how music works in our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies  and how we might bring it into our practice lives. In addition to sampling various vocal and movement forms, we will explore chanting to cultivate an authentic, core-centered voice, methods of sacred audition and the design of personal musical rituals.  Led by Puran Perez
